“I just had to include the photo that led me to this adventure and increased my resolve to finally DO something about my weight. I had avoided pictures, easy to do when you’re the one always holding the camera, but on this occassion someone else had a camera and snapped the shot. What I SAW disgusted me, shocked me, and woke me up. Yep, a picture IS worth a thousand words. I was ready to change.
-
I tell everyone who asks me about Z that they have to get it in their HEAD first. We have to have to change on the INSIDE before we can ever see a change on the OUTSIDE. I had to find a “come-hell-or-high-water” determination.
-
Obviously, something HAD to change. Susan B. (January, 2012 Zer of the Month) and I were childhood friends. Her parents owned the grocery next door to my grandparents’ house. We played together (and ate tons of candy together) many summers as children. We were the “chubby” girls in the neighborhood, and look at us now. I wish we’d known decades ago what we’ve learned and mastered by doing Z. More importantly, we do know what matters NOW and want to help others know the same.
-
At my workplace, Frost Arnett, there are now several ladies on the Z program after watching my weight melt off before their very eyes. My supervisor has lost over 50 lbs. and another friend is also currently moving into the “down 60 lb.” range. I know there is more good news to come, and their joy becomes my joy. Z is a life-changing program.”
-
I met Mary due to the abundant hospitality and hope at Elkhorn Baptist Church, at a Z live presentation celebrating Susan B.’s journey to her healthiest weight possible. Thanks so much to Brother Brian Rafferty for his prayers and allowing us to share our lives in the worship center. I met this fine lady in a line of people that day, and handed Mary her book; it was August 12, 2011. Shortly thereafter, she contacted me and I became her Z Mentor.
August 17, 2011: “Wow, Bill, is this really happening? After battling this all my life, could I FINALLY have found the answer? Tears of joy today!!!! Again, thank you with all my heart!”
March 16, 2012 (the date Mary reached her Z weight): “I dropped by JC Penney’s at lunch. Oh yeah, slid right into a size 8. Hallelujah! I have reached the Promised Land and my days of wandering in the desert are over. Doing the happy dance!!! Want to join me?”
-
Congratulations, Mary! All seventy four pounds less of you! “Doing” Z as prescribed, with focus and persistence in the effort until the job is finished, has been accomplished. You will keep it off because you went all the way and learned well. The old is gone. Now you know everything you need to know about getting weight off. Using some of these tools, some of the time, keeps it all off for life. Your eating habits have been permanently changed, as has your thinking about food. It’s been a pleasure strolling with you on this journey, friend. I’m so glad we met, and look forward to the great things that will continue to happen for others because of all the inspiration and example flowing out of Taylor County, KY. Blessings to you all for believing.

Miserable…that is the best word to describe how I was before Z. I either couldn’t or wouldn’t do something because of my weight. I stayed tired ALL the time and would be out of breath doing the smallest things. I tried Z a few times and always fell off the wagon even though I had wonderful mentoring. In 2009, I decided enough was enough. My daughter was growing up fast and by being heavy I was missing out on a lot of time with her doing things. On March 1, 2009, I re-committed to Z and nothing was going to stop me!! I chose to only tell a few people I was doing Z. That way, when someone asked me if I was losing weight, then I knew they could honestly see it. Sadly, I was so big that I had to lose 40 lbs before anyone could tell.
I counted every calorie and on November 15, 2009, I reached my Z weight by way of losing 100 lbs. Yes, I lost 100 lbs in 8.5 months. I haven’t been more than 10 pounds over since reaching Z. I think I gained 8 lbs at one point but got it back off. I do not weigh often now. I just go by how my clothes fit.
When you have determination and willpower you can accomplish anything!!

My husband and I met in college and we were both very active; I played college softball and he played college baseball. However, once we graduated college and got married in June of 2008, we got caught up in life and did not focus on our bodies as much as we should have. We were both teaching/coaching and spent many of our dinners at the drive-thru window of some fast food restaurant. In August of 2008 we were ready to start a family.
We were having difficulty conceiving and my Ob/Gyn physician sent us to see two fertility specialists. Both stated I had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and it would be very unlikely for us to get pregnant on our own, that we needed to try an IUI (intrauterine insemination) or IVF (in vitro fertilization). My husband and I are both teachers and we couldn’t afford those procedures. Over the grueling course of two years we did try several fertility medications, but still had no luck. We were both at a very low place emotionally in our lives because we wanted a baby so bad and it wouldn’t happen.
The last phone discussion I had with the nurse at one of the fertility specialist’s office was one of despair. In March, 2010, I asked her if there was anything I could do to possibly help myself conceive. Her response was, “Losing weight sometimes helps!” When I hung up from that conversation, I will never forget the way I felt: disappointed, angry, embarrassed, and, oh, SO hurt! I knew I was overweight, but I never thought it would play a part in our attempts to conceive. In April, 2010, a lady I work with had lost 40 lbs. following the Z plan and she looked fabulous. I had to know what she was doing. She told me about Dr. Bill Hopkins and the Z Resolution. I immediately ordered Dr. Hopkins’ book online, read it from cover to cover a few days later when I received it, and started the journey the very next day. In the course of that summer I dropped 40 lbs. as he personally guided me. In July I had a normal cycle on my own for the first time since March, and in August, 2010, only 4 months after starting and carrying out the Z life as recommended, we found out we were expecting our first baby. We were in complete shock because we were told it wouldn’t happen; not by Dr. Hopkins, but by medical specialists in that field.
God had other plans. We prayed for 2 years for God to heal my PCOS, for us to be able to conceive on our own.
Losing weight forced the PCOS release its grip on our lives, and God gave us the greatest miracle. Our son, Ian, was born on April 26th, 2011. He weighed 8 lbs. 1oz., and was 20 1/2 inches long at birth. He has blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. We were on cloud infinity!!! We were overwhelmed with emotion and, to this day, cannot picture what our lives were like before him. About six weeks after our son was born, my husband and I both needed to lose the “baby weight.” I gained 60 lbs during my pregnancy and my husband also gained, but did not keep record. I lost 20 lbs. from giving birth and during the summer of 2011, I started back into my Z life. I lost and have kept off 92 lbs. in only six months time since then. My husband, Adam, has lost the 50 lbs. he needed to lose, too. We will continue to maintain our Z weights because of how great it makes us feel and look. We are both the smallest (and healthiest!) either of us has ever seen one another, and we both feel blessed beyond what we deserve.
On January 3, 2012, I was invited to do a book signing at our local Barnes and Noble Booksellers store in Bowling Green, KY. Another of many joyful moments in my seven-year history as a Z Mentor was meeting a young family from Owensboro for the very first time, and holding a beautiful new life in my arms. I am honored to be a small part of their lives and sense our paths crossed for very good reasons.
Meredith, Adam, and baby Ian, welcome to the Z family! You are an example for others to follow in the quest to achieve and maintain their ideal weight. Keep the healing coming, America. We have a world to teach.

“I have never seen Susan so full of energy and just plain ole enjoying life for the first time since I’ve known her. She just makes it seem so easy to maintain her current weight, she eats anything she wants and her weight just effortlessly stays the same, no matter what she eats…it’s amazing!”
“Susan B. has been employed at Taylor Regional Hospital since a teenager, and has become the inspiration to many in the Campbellsville area and beyond. Being a part of her journey to Z was my pleasure; now I’m glad to say I have friends in Taylor County, KY, too. Best of health to you all.”

January, 2012; Z resolution already accomplished.
“WOW, it’s been 8 months now since I hit my wonderful Z weight!! I thank God every day for sending me the information I had longed for my entire life…to be able to lose the weight and keep it off forever. I look at my before pictures where I was my heaviest at 325 lbs, and remember the pain I was in. My legs, knees, and back hurt all the time; it was so hard to do even the most simple things. Now, weighing 130 lbs, I feel so free!!!!! I just love running and playing with my little girl, and doing the yard work this past summer was so easy. Living life as a “normal” sized person is a dream come true!!!!! Praise God for answering my prayers; I’ve have never felt so blessed.
Thank you, Dr. Hopkins, for so unselfishly sharing what God showed you to be the ultimate plan. Thank you so much!!!”
